Manifesto Book - Design Journal

A process book for the Specialist Ways of Working project. The book was to present the process of creating each task for the three projects, focusing on different aspects of visual communication (Personal, Brand and Interactive). The book, being my design journal, was aimed to show my skills and fondness of editorial design, while presenting my prefered style of creation, my explanation and interpretation of my own work while analysing the given tasks.

The design of my Manifesto book was inspired by one of my favourite styles - modern minimalism. The book tittle written in Katakana (one of Japanese alphabets) was to present my adoration of Japanese culture and art (in both traditional and modern design). The purpose of the pink stripe put on top of the letters was to add some element of colour, creating a sense of delicacy and softness to my project being kept in black in white.

The main purpose of the process book was to introduce the reader to my learning practice. That is why I presented my methods of working through detailed explanations, images of my inspirations or working space, scans of my sketches or notes done digitally on my iPad. That way I could support my analysis of being a visual and kinaesthetic learner.
As I was supposed to include all three projects in one book, I decided to divide them with different colours. For that I have choosen three bright and neon colours that would be the leading shades of each project (Deep Pink for the Personal, Violet Blue for the Brand and Radiant Pink for the Interactive Communication). The colour palette was also to highlight my fondness of luminous colours, contrasting very well with greyscale used throughout the text and imagery.
Each of my project always start with a plan written and drawn in my sketchbook. Even though I came up with a solid idea for the process book almost immediatelly, I was playing around with some similar concepts to finally merge them all together and find a design that satisfied me the most.

Thank you!
